Bayport Fire Damages Home, Destroys Shed

Cause of Thursday night shed fire currently under investigation.

A that caused damage to a house on Barrett Avenue in Bayport Thursday is currently under investigation by the Suffolk County Arson squad.

Approximately 50 members of the Bayport Fire Department arrived at the scene shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday, and extinguished the fire with mutual aid from Holbrook, Sayville and Blue Point fire departments.

The 10x10 shed was completely destroyed in the blaze that also caused damage to the home on the property, from which all the occupants safely evacuated.

Though the shed was not connected to the house, the blaze was strong enough to melt the vinyl siding on the right-hand side of the home, as well as cause some minor damage inside the home, according to Bayport Fire Department 2nd Assistant Chief, Bob Fleming.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown, but is under investigation by the Suffolk County Arson Squad, Fleming said.

An emergency crew from LIPA also responded.

Community Ambulance Company was on the scene, but had no injuries to report.
