“He took the life of a 24 year old woman, and he tried to kill the pair of police officers who responded to the call for help,” said District Attorney Thomas Spota in a statement Wednesday morning. “It appears Williams’ .9 millimeter handgun may have jammed shortly after he opened fire on the responding officers.”

When the officers returned fire, the defendant was shot in the arm and received treatment for his wound at a local hospital, according to the DA.

The victim, Chalece Cunningham, 24, was found on the floor of motel room, dead of a single gunshot to the head, according to the police.

Spota is expected to release more information about Williams' charges at a press conference following the arraignment at 9:30 a.m.
