Armed Robber Hits Blue Point Gas Station

Police arrest a Commack man who they said fled the crime scene on a bicycle.

The BP gas station on Montauk Highway in Blue Point was the site of an armed robbery late Wednesday night, according to the police, and a Commack man was shortly arrested for the crime.

Police say Paul Zigon, 57, entered the station at 10:27 p.m., and demanded cash while displaying what appeared to be a handgun. The attendant complied and gave him the cash. Zigon, of Wicks Road, Commack, fled on a bicycle southbound on Blue Point Avenue, according to police.

A short time later, Fifth Precinct Patrol Officer Matthew DeMatteo located and arrested Zigon, and police said Zigon had the proceeds in his possession. The weapon used in the robbery was recovered in a wooded area by responding K-9 Officer Keith Menotti and his canine partner, Havoc, according to police.
