Alleged Wedding Bounty Thief Due Back in Court Tomorrow

A man who allegedly tried to steal wedding gifts from a West Sayville Country Club reception is being held on $5,000 cash bail.

The New Jersey man who allegedly tried to steal the wedding bounty at a West Sayville Country Club reception is due back in court Wednesday and is being held on $5,000 cash/$7,500 bond.

Omar Santiago was arrested Saturday night during the bridal celebration event after he allegedly attempted to sneak away with a box full of wedding gift cards. He is facing a grand larceny charge which is an E felony.

According to a Newsday report, Suffolk police said Santiago admitted to taking the cards from a gift box, hiding them in his pants and attempting to flee after being noticed by a catering hall manager. Police say the groom chased after Santiago and caught him in the parking lot and held him until police arrived. The couple’s bounty was returned to them

At his arraignment Monday Santiago, who was invited to the wedding as a guest of a family member, pleaded not guilty and is being represented by a Legal Aid Society lawyer.
