50 Firefighters Battle Blue Point House Fire on Christmas Eve

Over 50 firefighters extinguish blaze that caused extensive damage to a Blue Point home.

Volunteer firefighters from the Bayport, Blue Point and Sayville Fire Departments battled a house fire Christmas Eve and had the blaze under control in a little over an hour after it was reported about 4:45 a.m.

The initial call reported it was a brush fire on the northbound side of Nicolls Road, by Purick Street. Upon arrival Bayport Fire Department First Assistant Chief Bob Fleming advised it was a fire in the rear yard of 13 Eatondale Avenue and that the fire had moved onto the house and extended into the first and second floors as well as the attic area of the two-story house.

In addition to the fire departments, the Community Ambulance Company of Sayville was on the scene with two ambulances and a rehab unit in case there were any injuries.
