Question of the Day: Gay Marriage

We ask, you answer.

New York's state Legislature appears close to passage of a bill that would permit same-sex marriage. Gov. Cuomo introduced the bill Tuesday in both houses of the Legislature and a vote could come as early as Thursday.

What do you think?

Marriage was instituted by God and to be between a man and a women. God did not mention same sex marriages. It has been that way for over 2000 years. What 2 people of the same sex decide to do is their business and between them and God. My problem with all this is do not demean my religious beliefs by calling same sex pairing a "Marriage" which is a sacrament in the christian faiths. If people of the same sex decide to spend their lives together then call it a civil union or something similar. I do not have a problem with these couples receiving benefits, insurance etc, as a married couple would receive. Let them find their own name for same sex pairings.

doing something the same way for a long time doesn't make it right. for example, slavery - which was both legal and endorsed by christians. so its okay if gay couples marry as long as they don't call it marriage? it should be separate institution but equal? "separate but equal" worked out for blacks after slavery, right? maybe instead we could all learn some history and stop making the same mistakes.

Marriage is about partnership, not gender. To reduce my marriage of 22 years to my high school sweetheart to the variations in our plumbing is insulting and sad. To be sure men and women are different and the potential for richness in a long term relationship is facilitated by those differences, but those differences also drive as many couples apart. Sacrifice for a person you love is not an activity limited to heterosexual pairs. I support marriage, by that name, within the homosexual community as a family value. Preventing the formal creation of loving families by denying human rights and withholding communal recognition from people because of the gender pairings involved shows an extremely shallow understanding of what marriage is all about.

Marrage is for man and women . I do advocate civil unions for insurance, hospital, and inharitance benifits of two people that have had a close, life long relationship. Do not devalue our marage by passing this bill in Albany. ED
