NOT Good news -- Patch may want to edit!

My apologies for not locating the "Bad News" opposite to the "Good News" section and posting this there. [Hide the kids for this one, or delete before reading.]

Deep in sleep last night in Bayport at 1 in the morning. Our terrier is barking more insistently than the usual "Raccoon alert". With the cats we fix, feed, and provide safety for, felines don't rate a tail wag.

I wish I hadn't looked out the window! Two large German Shepherds had a cat we have had for ten years suspended two feet off the ground as they shared their task of tearing it up. I dashed out in my night clothes and bare feet yelling at the top of my lungs! For a second, I thought the pair might decide I was a more worthy opponent, but they stopped their murder and trotted down the driveway with me close behind. Luckily they got to the corner, sniffed and turned.

By the time I retrieved shoes, a flashlight and heavy jacket, the duo (and their home) was nowhere to be found. Suffolk police came in a few minutes -- we spoke for a second and he took a tour of our neighborhood and the wetlands. While waiting for the police, I discovered the lifeless form in the leaves that said the killer dogs earned their title.

I share this gruesome tale with the hopes that owners of big dogs understand the awesome responsibility it is to house such a powerful breed. If the owner of the marauding pair were to have witnessed what I saw, even the most "cat averse" would have immediately called the Islip Animal control officer as too dangerous for domestic use. Granted, more than one dog seems to ramp up the mischief ten times, but if you have two dogs, you have a marauding pack! That you are responsible for, and are breaking the leash laws if you are not there to control them.

I would have had a lot of Good News of affection and companionship to share during our ten years together. But No More! and that's Bad News.
