MORE AFFORDABLE HOUSING UNITS PROPOSED

Developer Jim Tsunis has returned with a new proposal for the property on 337 and 347 McConnell Ave. in Bayport. He will be presenting this proposal to the community at the next Civic Association meeting. This meeting is on Tuesday, June 17th at 7pm at the Bayport United Methodist Church on Middle Road. Please come hear about the proposal and voice your opinions.

Because of strong community support, we were able to stop his last proposal of 56 affordable rental apartments. We will continue to need as much support as possible in order for Mr. Tsunis to see that we are strongly united in our opposition to the idea of more rental units in our community.

As we stressed to the Islip Town Planning Board, our opposition was based upon the fact that these high density rentals do not fit in with the nature and character of the surrounding properties that are privately owned, single-family residences, mostly on parcels of land of one acre and more. It is our belief that the most appropriate development on this land would be single family detached homes.

Even if you do not live in Bayport, please consider coming out to support this cause. The Sayville, Bayport and Blue Point communities are closely related, and it's likely that you have family and friends that will be affected should the town allow these units to be built. Please spread the word, and we look forward to seeing you on the 17th.
