Peter J. Dean, 84, of Sayville, LI, died on December 20, 2013.
A resident of Sayville since 1961, Dean served in the US Air Force during the Korean War where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Dean worked for many years with the Suffolk County Police Department before retiring in 1991 as a sergeant.
While on the police department, he was twice awarded the bravery medal. He was also an avid fisherman and a devoted father and grandfather.
Dean is survived by his three sons; Joseph of Patchogue, John of Bellport and James of Bayport, as well as his two grandchildren; Kevin and Grace. He was predeceased by his wife Dolores in 2006.
Friends and relatives will gather 2 p.m. to 4:30 and 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Monday, December 23 at Raynor & D'Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24 at St. Lawrence RC Church in Sayville and interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Sayville Cabinet for the Sick, 24 Collins Avenue, Sayville.
