Blue Point Resident, Business Owner Dies

Owner of Jams, the Hair Place, recalled for his professional success.

Albert Angelo Montesi, 77, known affectionately to his family and friends as “Monty”, local business owner and 45-year resident of Blue Point,  died Tuesday November 26, 2013.  

Born in Connecticut to Benjamin and Josephine Montesi, he was raised in Quincy, Massachusetts.  

Montesi was owner and operator of several successful beauty salons, getting his start at the salon in the famed Catskill resort, Grossinger’s. A popular, charismatic personality, he spent several years at the salon at Gurney’s Inn in Montauk where he counted models Cheryl Tiegs, Christie Brinkley and Suzy Chapstick among his many clients.

For the past 33 years, he and his wife,  Patricia,  have co-owned Jams - The Hair Place in Blue Point.

In addition to his wife of 45 years, Montesi is survived by his two children: Julia Petrella and her husband, Michael, and Alexandra Howze and her husband, Erin, his grandchildren; Olivia, Sarah, Sophia and Jacob, all of New Jersey, as well as his sister, Roseann Montesi of Florida.

Friends and relatives gathered for a funeral mass on Monday, December 2 at Our Lady of the Snow Catholic Church in Blue Point.  Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Raynor & D'Andrea Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Francis Hospital Foundation, Office of Development and Public Affairs, 100 Port Washington Blvd, Roslyn, NY 11576, are appreciated. 

Cremation was private.
