Long Island Sports and Rehab Owner Gets Patients 'Back to Living Again

Patch readers told us who the "Everyday Inspirations" in their communities are, and we're sharing their stories and the work they've done locally.

Everyday Inspirations is a series that features people in Patch communities who inspire others through their work, or people who have faced extraordinary situations and grown from them. They have been featured by other people in the community that have been inspired by the nominees.

Name: Lois Cloud-Malenczek
Town: Sayville, NY
Nominated by: Jeanne Anderson

Why is this person an "Everyday Inspiration?"
Lois runs Long Island Sports and Rehabilitation Center. I called there after having a chronic injury and not making much progress at other facilities and she took the time out of her busy schedule to get on the phone and allow me to interview her. I started treatment there and realized this woman is truly an angel.

She is determined to get every patient back to living again. She truly changes the quality of people's lives. She's compassionate, encouraging, supportive and is truly dedicated to her profession. When you get discouraged because you're not progressing as quickly as you would like, she is right there cheering you on.

Has the nominee's life been changed in an extraordinary way?

My quality of life has dramatically changed because of the person Lois is. I was convinced by many people that I had to live my injury and accept my limitations but Lois proved that with determination, her skills and support, there is no limit.

How does this person work to make others' lives better?

She treats every single patient like they're a member of her family. She gives people a great big hug when they're feeling down. She smiles everyday, all day, which makes others smile.

She forges into work through inclement weather and illness, nothing stops her from treating her patients. She never gives up hope on her patients, even when they've given up hope on themselves. She is truly an inspiration.
