Radio Takes to the Air: The Use of Radio in Aeronautics

In the early days of flight, the RCA Company
installed radio equipment on a plane at Roosevelt Field and sent it up with a
pilot, Pickerell. This invention found its way to the old Sayville radio
station was used by the CAA/FAA as first a beam station and then a transmitter
of weather and position to all flights along the eastern seaboard, beginning
the story of radio and airplanes that became sophisticated during the World
