World War II Navy Vet Celebrates 90th Birthday

Bayport resident Theresa Marie Smith Reilly was recently honored for her service in the Navy at her birthday celebration.

World War II Lieutenant, Suffolk County Health Department Chairman, Bayport-Blue Point school nurse, teacher and resident Theresa Marie Smith Reilly finally received recognition for her service in the armed forces during her 90th birthday celebration at Villa Lombardi's.

Family, friends and elected officials attended in support of the US Naval nurse who, in addition to being placed at numerous other stations throughout the war, spent eight months stationed at Pearl Harbor, Honolulu Hawaii working as a dietician for POW'S from Japan.

Sept. 22, 2011 marked Theresa's 90th birthday. She still lives in the same Bayport home she settled into in 1958 with (now deceased) husband John F. Reilly, also a Navy reserve veteran. Their two children yielded three grandchildren: Erin M. Dengeles, Glenn J. Dengeles and Maura Reilly. Theresa's family is her pride and joy.
