B-BP 'Downtown' Improvement Funding Secured

Bayport Civic and Bayport-Blue Point Chamber of Commerce worked with elected officials to secure funding from Suffolk County's Downtown Revitalization Grant program.

Islip Town Supervisor Phil Nolan recently met with several county legislators representing various parts of the Town of Islip, in order to discuss the granting of almost $200,000 in funds to revitalize downtown areas throughout Islip Town.

Legislator , D - Holbrook, along with Bob Draffin of Bayport Civic Association and Seth Needelman of Bayport-Blue Point Chamber of Commerce, met with to discuss the effort, as the civic and chamber will handle the disbursement and use of the funds. 

Draffin and Needelman had each led the way in securing funding for downtown Bayport-Blue Point, and they plan on using the $20,000 they received for the installation of decorative streetlights and basic maintenance work in the downtown area.

“In these lean times, every dollar counts,” said Nolan. “The fact that the Town of Islip has received such generous funding speaks volumes to the worthiness of these projects. This grant money will create jobs, enliven areas across Islip Town, and bring new businesses to our community.” 

These grants are part of Suffolk County’s Downtown Revitalization Grant program. Funds to be used towards improvements, such as new curbs and sidewalks, decorative street lighting, and new trees are being allocated to organizations representing Bayport-Blue Point in an effort to attract shoppers and businesses by improving downtown spaces.
