Deer Park-North Babylon

Deer Park High School senior Larisa Zambelli has signed a national letter of intent to play soccer at and attend LaSalle University. Zambelli will receive a four-year academic and athletic scholarship to the Division I school in Philadelphia.

Half Hollow Hills

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand made a visit to Melville Friday morning to urge the U.S. Commerce Department to approve Suffolk County's request to expand its Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) program.  Gillibrand, speaking during a press conference at International Warehouse Group, said the program's expansion would encourage more companies with import and export operations across the county to take advantage of associated tax breaks and incentives.

West Islip

Suffolk County police are investigating the report of a Beach Street Middle School student who said he was recently approached by a stranger as he walked home from practice.  According to an alert posted on the West Islip School District website, the victim was approached by a white haired man in a white van who asked if he needed a ride home. The student then ran home.

Patchogue

SJ Hoerning Construction Inc. was awarded the $188,000 bid to build the Carnegie Library foundation for its upcoming permanent location on the property of the Sixth District Court in Patchogue Village at Monday’s Patchogue Village Board of Trustees meeting at Patchogue Village Hall.

Sayville

The Suffolk County District Attorney is upgrading charges against the driver allegedly responsible for a deadly multi-car crash in Sayville last January in which a West Islip man was killed.

Lindenhurst

The Village has moved forward to repair the Lindenhurst Fire Department's training tower in Firemen's Park that was damaged by a private contractor working for the Village to remove debris following Hurricane Sandy in October.

Babylon Village

The Babylon Village Board of Trustees formally gave their approval to the new restaurant taking over the space at the northwest corner of Deer Park Avenue and West Main Street. The board unanimously approved the application of Luciano DiRico to "own and operate a restaurant at 1 West Main Street" during their April 23 board meeting.

Sachem

Several schools in the Holbrook section of the Sachem School District had to go to modified lockdown Monday as police attempted to track down three suspects who held up the CVS on Main Street and fled in an unknown direction. According to police, three masked men, one of whom was armed with a gun, entered the CVS at around 3 a.m. yesterday and stole cash from both the registers and the safe. Police say they also took a wallet off of a person inside the store at the time and then fled in a vehicle without firing a shot.
