Islip Shelter Animals of the Week

Bring home puppies with plenty of spunk to kick start your holiday spirit.

The Town of Islip Animal Shelter is home to many lovable dogs, cats, puppies and kittens that are desperately looking to join the right family.  The shelter takes great pride in providing a clean and caring environment for all of their pets.

This year, you may want to find Coal underneath your Christmas tree. Coal is a retriever mix with a beautiful, thick black coat. Not only is he tall, dark and handsome but the shelter says Coal is one smart pup. This mixed breed really is teacher's pet and he is eager to learn all sorts of new tricks and commands.

Some of Coal's favorite things include playing fetch and climbing. He is an excellent climber and the shelter reports Coal can easily jump a four-foot fence. You may want to make your fences at home a bit higher or enter Coal in the doggy Olympics.

Most importantly, he is a playful and loving dog who gets along with kids, cats and other dogs. If you want to make Coal an addition to your home please come to the Islip Animal Shelter to meet him.  His Pet ID Tag Number is 3803 and he is neutered and up-to-date with his routine shots.

If you are looking for a more miniature mutt, come meet Cotton. This male poodle mix may look like a small ball of white fluff but he has a big attitude. The shelter describes Cotton as "a feisty little character" and this pup has plenty of spunk and spirit to go around. Cotton's bark is worse than his bite.

The shelter says you can expect some yelping and barking from him when he first meets you. Don't be uneasy about adopting Cotton based on your your first experience. The shelter assures he is a sweet and friendly guy once he gets to know you.

This petite poodle would be best in a home without children under the age of five. He is neutered and is up-to-date on all of his routine shots and vaccinations. To find out more about Cotton come down to the shelter and meet him. His Pet ID Tag Number is 3907.

All animals at the shelter (210 South Denver Avenue, Bay Shore) are vaccinated, spayed and neutered before leaving. The organization requires a pet adoption fee along with a pet application which can be found on the their website.
