Sayville Native Bound for 'Amazing Race'

Teammates Danny Horal, who grew up in Sayville, and Joey Lasalla will be competing for the million-dollar prize on the CBS program.

Long Island will be well represented when the 20th season of the The Amazing Race kicks off on Feb. 19 on CBS. Teammates Danny Horal, who grew up in Sayville and now lives in Holbrook, and Joey Lasalla, a Whitestone resident, will be competing for the million-dollar prize.

Horal, who according to Newsday helped win a baseball championship for Mercy High in Riverhead in 2003, said he doesn’t like losing and is competing in this race to win.

The self-admitted “guidos” hope to break the stereotype. “There are a lot of misconceptions about guidos, but girls like guidos and hopefully we will show that guidos have a brains too,” the teammates said.

Horal, who played Division 1 College Baseball at St. Francis College in Brooklyn, is looking forward to the challenges this season brings and looking forward to “gaining a better knowledge of the world and a closer bond with my friend.”

Horal and Lasalla are competing against 10 other teams, including a pair of border patrol agents, married clowns, federal agents, twins and last season’s winner of Big Brother. This season of the multi-Emmy award winning show, will visit Paraguay, Azerbaijan and other exotic locations. Along the way, teams will travel through five continents, 22 cities and nearly 40,000 miles. The show premiers on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
