Easter Bunny Hops Down to the Common Ground

Rain or shine, the Chamber doesn't disappoint the kids at annual event.

The weather may not have been cooperating but that didn’t stop the Easter Bunny from making his grand entrance at the Common Ground on April 23.

The wet weather definitely deterred the normal crowd but plenty of children still came down to meet the rabbit, pet the animals, dance to some tunes and watch a magic show.

The Easter Bunny made his big arrival just after noon, tucked safely inside the fire truck. Members of the hosted the event, and the bunny and his visitors all stayed nice and dry under a tent.

Before the bunny’s appearance, many children gathered around the petting zoo, courtesy of Steppin’ Out Ponies in Dix Hills. They were able to feed the goats, see the chickens and of course pet the rabbit.

With a smaller crowd than year’s past, the wait to see the Easter Bunny and get your picture taken was much more manageable. After posing for their photo, kids filled their baskets with jelly beans, Junior Mints and lollipops. The kids also lined up to get their faces painted courtesy of Randi and Laura from Nesconset-based Party Pals.

Members of the Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce were also on hand, offering a free guest pass to , a coloring contest for kids at Teacher’s Federal Credit Union, and entry forms for the upcoming at the Common Ground on May 14 in conjunction with . Kids also took part in a contest to guess how many jelly beans filled up a jar.

Next up, the children gathered around the edge of the tent to see a magic show performed by Didi the Magician. Her kid-friendly magic was highly entertaining as many children were able to take part in the performance. Teddy, Sara, Eric and Liam all got to take center stage and become part of the show. They got to cut a rope and watch it magically turn into one again, stick a needle through a balloon without having it pop, and even become a human sacrifice as one child was sawn in half for the big grand finale.
