Doo Wop Legend Jimmy Clanton Performs in Town

Concert held outside the Sayville Modern Diner.

Doo Wop Legend Jimmy Clanton held an intimate concert outside the Sayville Modern Diner on Saturday.

Clanton, known as the “swamp pop R&B teenage idol,” recorded hits such as “Just A Dream,” which reached No. 4 on the Billboard chart and sold a million copies in 1958. His next major hit, "Venus in Blue Jeans," peaked at number seven in mid-1962. Clanton performed on Dick Clark's American Bandstand and toured with popular artists like Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis and The Platters.

“It’s so nice to be back in New York; two of my favorite things about New York are the diners and the cheesecake,” Clanton said. He started his performance with a single off of his new album called “Everybody Needs Love,” a song he wrote for his granddaughter.
