Dead Seal Off Fire Island May Be Victim of Shark Attack

A seal may have been attacked and killed by a shark off Fire Island this past weekend, according to a report by the Save the Great South Bay group.

A group member, Michael Patrick, was walking about a half mile west of Smith Point when he discovered the carcass of a seal, according to GSB.

The head was gone, and the body indicated serration marks.

"The National Parks Service is investigating, but it is very possible this was a Great White Shark attack," states the report posted by Marshall Brown.
