#81 -- Take A Step Back In Time

The Sayville Historical Society offers a glimpse into the past at annual open house event.

For nearly three decades, the Sayville Historical Society has been hosting an open house on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Taking place on Nov. 26 from 5 to 8 p.m, the event offers a rare glimpse into Sayville past.

As a kickoff to the holiday season, the building pathway is lined with luminaria. The Society's buildings are filled with the holiday traditions of nationalities who settled in the area: the English, Dutch and Germans.

The open house event features a representation of food, drink and clothing from German, Dutch and English traditions. From Farmer's Punch to flaming English plum pudding, the food and drink reflects upon the different cultures in the early days of Sayville.
