Staying Positive During a Job Search

For anyone in a job search it's important to remain positive, enthusiastic and focused! Know your strengths and build on them!

"The reason people give up so quickly is because they tend to look at how far they still have to go, instead of how far the have come" Author Unknown

What a powerful quote!  We are conditioned to continually look at where we need to improve.....from the time we are in school collecting grades from teachers and college professors and then at work through performance evaluations.

If you're in job search, look back on your career(s) and focus on the impact you had in the organization.  What did/do people thank you for? What do people seek your advice on? Contemplating these questions can lead you to discovering your strengths and articulating your accomplishments. If you know what you do best and what you enjoy most, your job search and communication becomes focused....and a focused job search is an EFFECTIVE job search!.

I encourage you, whether in job search or employed, to discover your strengths and continue to build on them.  Do you know what your strenghts or natural talents are?  The book StrengthsFinder 2.0, by Tom Rath, provides an opportunity to take an easy on-line assessment with insightful immediate results identifying your top five talents.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.
