April 15 is Tax Day

Tax Day is Monday, April 15th.

Keep these things in mind as April 15th (Monday) is just days away:

  • It is the deadline to file individual tax returns or to request an automatic extension for the year 2012. An extension provides an extra six months to file your return. Payment of the tax is still due by April 15th. An approximation of your taxes owed are still due with the extension form.
  • It is the the last day to make a contribution to a tax deferred instrument for the 2012 tax year.
  • 1st quarter estimated tax payments are due for the 2013 tax year.
  • Deadline to file partnership tax returns or to request an automatic 5-month extension of time to file.
  • Final deadline for estates, trusts, or partnerships to file an amended tax return and still claim a tax refund for the year 2009.
  • For 2009 returns, the window closes on April 15, 2013. The code requires that the return be properly addressed, mailed and postmarked by that date. There is no penalty for filing a late return qualifying for a refund.
  • Final deadline to file amended tax returns for tax year 2009 and still claim a tax refund.
