The latest drink fave is this homemade brew boasting 50% alcohol and 100% proof.

What are people in town drinking these days? Well some are drinking moonshine, Midnight Moonshine to be exact. Apparently more than some actually.

As Bayport's Wine & Liquors shared with Patch, the new homemade brew from Junior Johnson through Piedmont Distillers, is selling like, well moonshine during prohibition.

Two cases of the good stuff went in just two days last weekend. It's nearly impossible to keep in stock.

According to the distiller's website the Midnight Moon fruit inclusions are hand-packed with actual fruit. Flavors include Apple Pie, Blackberry, Blueberry, Cherry, Cranberry & Strawberry.

It’s made from American corn, hand-crafted in small batches and born in a copper still. Junior Johnson is a legendary moonshiner from North Carolina. According to the distiller's website Junior grew up tending to the family’s stills during the day and running ‘shine at night. In 2010, Junior Johnson was one of the five inductees in the inaugural class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

You can enjoy Midnight Moon just over ice or in a variety of mixed drink recipes. Piedmont Distillers is a small distillery in the little town of Madison, North Carolina.

And guess what. Midnight Moon is also gluten-free.

Midnight Moon Original is 40 percent alcohol per volume, making it 80 proof. Midnight Moon Apple Pie is 35 percent (70 proof). Midnight Moon Blackberry, Blueberry, Cherry, Cranberry, and Strawberry are 50 percent (100 proof).

The cost per bottle ranges between $20 and $30 and while the fruit in the jar is preserved the distillery recommends not eating it.
