Sweet Frog Yogurt Store to Open in Sayville

The store will offer soft-serve yogurt and dozens of toppings in a self-serve storefront.

A Sayville resident hopes to open a new frozen yogurt store called Sweet Frog by Memorial Day weekend in the shopping center on the south service road of Sunrise Highway in Sayville that houses a 7-11 store as well as Sleepy’s and Domino pizza store.

Candice Golio says she got hooked on Sweet Frog, which sells soft serve frozen yogurt and offers dozens of toppings, during a visit last year to North Carolina. She, her husband and kids stopped in one in Kitty Hawk.

“I fell in love,” she said, noting the store’s slogan is “fun is our secret ingredient.” The store’s color scheme and efficient operation were enticing. Sweet Frog began in 2009 and initial stores were in Virginia. There will be 100 locations by Spring, according to the company’s web site, and Golio is opening one of three based in New York. There are Sweet Frog stores planned for Hauppauge and Stony Brook.

“It’s delicious, the customer service is excellent, and we just felt good being there. We knew we needed a place like this in Sayville,,” said Golio.

So upon arriving home she called the company and visited with corporate leaders to discuss opening a Long Island location. She initially hoped to open the store in downtown Sayville but a lack of available space meeting wastewater requirements forced her to look at other options.

The store’s chosen location is a good fit, she says, as the building requirements were available, there is ample parking and a lot of shopping traffic in the location.

“We wanted to be in Sayville and tried to find a place in town but there was nothing that met our needs,” she says.

The store is currently undergoing construction and barring any major issues Golio plans to open around Memorial Day weekend.

She already has a Facebook page up and running  and a website.

“My mother can’t wait til the store opens as she loves the yogurt.”
