SummerFest Kicks off with Opening Ceremonies

100,000 people expected to attend this weekend's festivities.

Sayville's 31st annual SummerFest kicked off Friday night with opening ceremonies being held at Gillette Park. SummerFest co-chair Norm deVenau, from Sayville Linen Boutique, welcomed those in attendance on behalf of himself and his two co-chairs Janet Berger, from Century 21 Bays Edge and Sayville chamber of commerce president Richard Trpicovsky.

"This event is such a success because there are great people behind it. We have so many chairpeople who make this possible," said deVenau. "This event is rated the safest and best carnival on Long Island. The weather is cooperating and it is going to be a great weekend."

Friday night's festivities included rides, games, food and vendors. Also, stores on Main Street were holding sales for patrons.
