Shop the Sales at this Weekend's Sidewalk Sale

Chamber of Commerce sponsors this annual event.

Looking for some great gifts or want to treat yourself? This weekend is your chance. A majority stores located in downtown Sayville will be participating in the annual sidewalk sale, which is sponsored by the Sayville Chamber of Commerce.

Come walk down Main Street all daytoday, Saturday and Sunday, when temperatures should be more comfortable in the 80's. Make sure to shop inside the stores too as the sidewalk sale is located both inside and outside of the stores.

"The sidewalk sales event is one of many events put together by the Chamber of Commerce that gives the merchants an opportunity to meet new customers and maintain an ongoing relationship with existing ones," said Chamber president Richard Trpicovsky. "The events bring new and old customers into town to enjoy the event and discover the pleasure of shopping here."

Don't let the temperatures fool you – store owners are trying to clear out some merchandise to get ready for the holiday season.

"We all want to bring in new inventory and need the space to do so," said Jennifer Gross, owner of Flourish, who will be offering 'Christmas in July' sales. "I hope people will come into town for some great bargains. It's an excellent way for shops to be able to give tremendous discounts."

After you are done shopping this afternoon, stop down to The Common Ground for Family Fridays at 6:30 p.m. to hear Darlene Graham perform. On Saturday, watch the Pet Parade trot down Main Street at 10 a.m. while you shop. The pets will offer some great entertainment. On Sunday, head over to the art exhibit at Meadow Croft after you shop. Artists will be there from 1 – 4 p.m.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.

It's a drive-through bank.

I heard it was a bank some time ago, but I can't imagine which bank would run a construction projectRead More so poorly.
