Sayville Residents Not Thrilled With New Bank's Look

Informal poll reveals not many like the building or even want another bank in town.

An informal poll reveals local residents aren’t too happy with the design of the incoming First National branch on Main Street in Sayville and more than a few would rather see Dairy Barn back on the site.

Sayville-Bayport Patch reader Heidi Nemith calls its “ugly and mundane,” and lacking character.

Louise Gallo Neil describes it as a “a stupid megamansion. Dumb.”

Reader Eileen Frappied says the full service branch, slated to open in early Fall, is too close to the street.

“And why another bank??!! Dairy barn was the best. Especially when my kids were young and I didn't want to bring them to the stores for milk and bread!! I always let them pick out an entemanns desert!!,” she wrote on Patch’s Facebook page.

Frappied isn’t alone in wanting Dairy Barn back in town. Lynn Klein misses it too.

The overwhelming feedback from Patch readers is that Sayville just doesn’t need any more banks.

“Like we need another one. Who has the money to put in it?,” wonders Tina Valetutti-Kraemer, and her sentiments were echoed by Lisa J. Parker-Svarzman. “Just what we needed another bank! NOT!.”

The new building did get a small compliment from reader Patti Guarnieri Collins but she’s concerned about potential accidents and roadway issues once it opens.

“Looks ok but concerned with that intersection. Cars coming in and put of bank , diner, handsome ave ... Needs a traffic light,” she wrote.

Maria C Lanzano agrees with Collins’ assessment.

“It's too close to the street and already cars have trouble coming in and out of that entire area: the diner, the three different side streets, the church, CVS, the school, and subway,” she writes. “It's just going to create more of a traffic nightmare.”
