UPDATE: Sayville Bar Gets Its Sign Back Safe

A social media plea regarding a stolen sign has put the sign back in the hands of the Sayville bar that reported the theft to friends and fans on Facebook.

The sign, which went missing in the past day or so was returned to the Portly Villager bar Friday morning, averting a police incident report. The owners now intend to have the gold leaf refreshed on the sign before getting it back in place over the front door.

ORIGINAL STORY
A thief has stolen the pretty sign that once hung over the front door of the Portly Villager on Montauk Highway in Sayville and the owner is hoping to have it returned without involving the police.

The sign went missing mid week and owner Marlene Keghlian is hitting social media to reach out to those responsible.

"Whoever stole the Portly Villager sign from above the front door, please return it. It is a gold leaf painted sign and is obviously expensive to replace," she wrote in a Facebook posting Thursday night.

"Please return it by Friday or we will have no choice and will have to report it to the police. To our loyal patrons please put the word out if possible. Thank You for your support."

The incident isn't going over well with Portly Villager fans and customers, who called the theft "horrible," "terrible" and "wrong."
