Sayville Art Walk Launches

Downtown businesses showcase artworks, restaurants offer specials, at Chamber-sponsored event.

The Sayville Art Walk summer series kicked off on Friday, filling downtown businesses with artwork created by 35 local artists.

Stores participating in the event, which is sponsored by the Sayville Chamber of Commerce, each highlighted a particular artist as well as provided walking maps pointing out the participating shops in the downtown.

"It was great to see the community out and about," said West Sayville resident Kristina O'Malley, who attended the event with her husband Justin and son Jake.

In addition to the various, paintings, photos and sculptures showcased in the businesses, street musicians played throughout the village and restaurants offered specials on food and wine tastings, including Oystermans Restaurant and Pub, The Sayville Inn and CU29.

Participating stores included Flourish, Sayville General Store, Kay Cameron, Sweet Gourmet, Lealand Eve Boutique, Prudential, Village Gift Shop, Canavan Classics, Past & Present, Relax the Back, Dorothy's, Sayville Antique & Design Center, Seafarer Gift Shop, Silica and Century 21.

"The artists come from all over," said event coordinator Jennifer Gross, owner of Flourish, and include Walter Schick, Elaine Thompson, Alma Pancir, Rich Zodda, Regina Cline, Liz Kolligs, Kathy Seff, Alexandra Losub, Marvin Menke and Karen Diemer.

"Hopefully, you can start your night with a delicious dinner from one of our restaurants and end the night with a nightcap at another," she said.

The Art Walk will be held again on July 16 and August 27 from 6 p.m. to  9 p.m.
