Readers Respond: No Need for Any More Banks in Sayville

One Patch reader would rather see a strip club open than a drive-through bank operation.

Apparently the last thing Sayville residents want to see open in the business district is another bank.

In fact some would rather have a strip club or a dive bar open at the former Dairy Barn location on Main Street.

“Really—how many banks does one town need,” wrote Corinne Sorisi McBride on Sayville-Bayport Patch’s Facebook page regarding Monday’s story on a drive-through bank application for the former convenience store site.

While several residents posted they were happy to hear that the lot, which has fallen into decrepidation after being vacant for several years, will be cleaned up.

“Good to hear this eyesore is being addressed,” wrote JW Loughren.

But the idea of another bank isn’t sitting well with readers who believe the community already has enough banks.

“Yeah, because God knows that Sayville needs another bank! Give me a break.....bring back Dairy Barn!,” wrote Karen Torres  Gugliotta, whose sentiments were echoed by many.

“Enough with the banks already,” wrote Susan-Hatter-Knappe.

Even a Bayport resident don’t see a need for another bank in Sayville.

“….like we have any money to need a bank!!,” wrote Cindy Warnken.

Reader Anthony Dorner wondered the same. “Are we really running out of places to keep all of our money?” he wrote.

Victoria Herrmann noted a similar view.

“No one has money in this economy and yet we keep building banks to deposit our imaginary money. Wonder if this one will accept monopoly money, cause soon enough thats all we'll have .... plus we already have citizens, 2 chases, a TD and capital one, I think we're banked out,” she stated.

Comments on the Patch story about the proposed plan ran along a similar vein.

“Great news,” wrote reader Vito. “It is getting so hard to find a bank around here!

“I'm glad to see something being done, but really? Another bank? Just throw a CVS next door too, not enough of those around....,” wrote Karen Costa.

Readers would rather see Dairy Barn reopen or even a strip club.

“I'd rather see a dive bar, a restaurant, offices, a strip club, a new Bunk House--almost ANYTHING but another bank or drug store! #%#$!,” wrote Zappafrankfurter.

In the meantime, while trying to decide WHAT type of business should go there, how about someone step in, the Town, County, whomever ... and take down the "eyesore" and clear the property. That surely would return our town's charm.

I miss Dairy Barn too, but please, ENOUGH ALREADY WITH THE BANKS!!!! Can't the town approve some other kind of business?

Why in the world someone wouldn't open up a drive through store again is beyond me. What a timesaver to not have to get out of the car..just zip in and zip out. Sayville should consider a name change to BANKVILLE at this rate, jeez enough is enough with the banks.

i think we need a bank honestly

We've already got at least 4 banks on the same street in town, we really don't need to add anymore at all.

Im so sick and tired of people voting business down. Did you ever once stop and think that for every property that stays vacant there's a property owner losing money, paying taxes on a lot that's not producing revenue! But you didnt vote.down another Japaneese Restaurant or another bar opening up on Main St Bay Shore! And the Eistein who rallyed to not have the old Islip Theatre open up as a day care center...Bravo. Keeping unemployment up. All these places generate jobs. The bar and restarant are killing existing businesses and forcing them to shut down and move.

How does a bank create job but bars and restaurants kill businesses? makes ZERO sense

Seriously, you'd rather have a strp joint or bar than a clean, neat bank? Dairy Barn can't make enough money to stay in business and in this economy neither can many small businesses. Banks BUY property as an investment, keep the property maintained, and pay taxes. I'd rather see retail in Sayville too, but first we need a stronger economy. Be thankful someone reputable will be cleaning up an eyesore.

I would love to have a Dairy Barn type store back in that area again, but I, too, agree that I'd rather have a neat, clean bank take over the property and maintain it. For anyone to suggest a strip joint in the middle of town across the street from the Catholic church is awful!
