As one reader noted, the deli, on the north side of Montauk Highway just east of the 7-11 store, has only been open a little over a year and beat out longtime deli spots such as Parkville Plaza that landed in second place.

"I think it's amazing that the Sayville Sandwich after being open only a little over a year is in the running with delis that have been open for over 20 years.there is no other deli as organized, clean, has great food and is reasonably priced as the sayville sandwich. Not to mention their service is outstanding. They are so friendly and fast," wrote the fan.

The deli officially opened in the beginning of February, 2011 and is owned by Sayville resident Joe Mesi. Mesi has been in the bagel and deli business for 25 years, formerly running a bagel store in Lindenhurst.

Starting with breakfast, the shop has everything from the standard egg sandwiches, bagels with cream cheeses, to offerings like the Mesi man, three slices of Texas toast dipped in French vanilla crème topped with cinnamon and powdered sugar. Muffins, brownies, cookies, Danish, turnovers, crumb cake and donuts are also offered throughout the day.

The lunch menu has even more choices. There are hot grilled paninis, soups, sandwiches and salads. There are 12 different types of breads for the sandwiches too. The big draw is the specialty sandwiches. There are 21 in all and they offer something to please any palette. Customers can also create any sandwich they like with any of the deli’s offerings.

The Sayville Sandwich is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and closed on Sundays.
