Reader Feedback: Too Many Dessert Places Cropping Up

A recent Patch poll indicates residents think there are too many frozen creameries opening around town.

A recent "Talk Back" poll by Patch about the increasing number of frozen dessert shops doesn’t bode well for new businesses looking to cash in on the public’s love of cold and yummy treats.

Within a few months there'll be eight, yes eight, frozen dessert places to choose from between West Sayville and Bayport. And 66 percent of readers believe that’s too many but 33 percent believe the four communities Patch covers can sustain so many frozen yogurt, Italian ice, ice cream stores.

As one reader wrote, new business can be a boon for communities beyond offering a new option in food and services.

“Berry Fresh has been a great community supporter. They have helped us with several Sylvan Ave PTA fundraisers since opening already. They are also very friendly & the frozen yogurt is yummy. I wish them much continued success,” writes one reader.

Berry Fresh opened a few months ago in Bayport and is slated to open a store in Sayville where the Country Rotisserie was in the Stop and Shop shopping center.
