New Frozen Yogurt Store is Heading to Sayville

Huntington-based Long Island chain Yogurt Crazy has plans for storefront.

Sayville-Bayport may soon become known as a frozen dessert mecca of the south shore as Yogurt Crazy is planning to open in Sayville.

Berry Fresh, a frozen yogurt operation which recently opened in Bayport, is also aiming to open in a Sayville storefront -- the location that formerly housed Country Rotisserie in the Stop and Shop shopping center.

Right now Sayville boasts a Carvel, Friendly’s, Poppa Mia’s Italian Ices and Ralph's Famous Italian Ices, as well as a Sweet Frog Yogurt location on Sunrise Highway which opened on June 11 and an official grand opening event is planned for June 16. The opening is also a benefit for Dylan Egan Kolar, a Sayville 11-year-old living who was diagnosed at the age of one with a rare bone marrow failure syndrome called Shwachman Diamond Syndrome. Bayport has a Carvel as well and the new Berry Fresh.

Yogurt Crazy, which is family owned, first opened in Huntington and has five locations: Commack, Huntington, Woodbury and Northport and its most recent location in Deer Park. It’s also planning to open a store in East Meadow, according to its website.

A call to Yogurt Crazy regarding the specific location in Sayville and timeframe of opening was not returned by press time.

"We like the Deer Park area, we saw potential there," said Brendan Hackett, a co-owner told Deer Park-North Babylon Patch this week about its most recent location. "It's a very nice shopping center. Also, like with all of our stores, we want to be near schools and in this case we are close to the high school."

The company isn't afraid of a moving into a crowded yogurt field.

"There's always competition," Hackett told Deer Park-North Babylon Patch. "That's not a problem. We aren't going to be alone."
