New Biz Spotlight: First Choice Sports

Bayport is new home for game card store that appeals to young and older enthusiasts.

If the name, or the people behind the counter at First Choice Sports in Bayport seem familiar it’s likely because you stopped in at their prior location at the SunVet Mall in Holbrook.

The sports card and memorabilia shop, which opened in its new location last month in the small strip center caddy corner from Snedecor Avenue on Montauk Highway, is run by Carlo Monte of Bellport along with Bill Kost, who organizes the many card game tournaments held during the week and weekends at the store.

The store is filled with sports cards, action figures, framed sports photos and kids' gaming cards. Dozens of wrestling figures and other entertainment figures line the walls and shelves of what used to be a foot massage location. There is also plenty of signed memorabilia for collecting fans.

One of the store’s biggest attractions are the card game tournaments held Friday and Saturday. For $5 game enthusiasts get a chance to play their favorite game for hours and also learn tips and tricks from store workers and fellow enthusiasts.

“We also hold a raffle each month in which customers can win $50 gift certificates,” said Monte, adding that the tournaments draw a few dozen players and the ages range from five to mid 20’s.

“They’re supervised and they have a great time,” said Monte. “The owners are always on premise during tournaments,” he added.
