Lawan Thai Restaurant Closing Next Week

Patchogue's Lawan Authentic Thai Restaurant is set to close its doors next week.

The restaurant on Main Street in Patchogue Village is closing on March 13, according to a post on the restaurant's Facebook page.

The owners of the restaurant, which opened in 2003, are retiring and plan to move back to Thailand, a Lawan employee told Patch.

My wife and I just had our last meal there. It was delicious as always. We are very sorry to see the place close. I hope that the second part of John's rumor does not turn out to be true, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is. That is a prime location. Lawan was there before Patchogue was cool. I would much rather see another restaurant like Lawan fill in the space, but I suspect that the rent for that location is going to skyrocket, and the only type of restaurant that will be able to pay will be one that makes its money off booze, which probably means high-end bar food.

I just grabbed takeout from the Thai place in Blue Point, they got NYT and Newsday nods when they opened, hadn't been there in years. $37, for maybe two meals, and sorry, there's nothing to this food, way overpriced, especially compared to quality Chinese.

So sorry to hear this rumor confirmed. We've enjoyed many wonderful meals there, most recently with Asian friends who loved it. The service was always warm and friendly and the food invariably fresh and delicious. We even had Lawan cater a party at our home, and again, the food was terrific.

C O- Yes, great fried ice cream. And how about the seasonal mango and sweet rice? So good. Anyway, not to contribute to the rumor mill, but we ate there last week and a waiter told my cousin that a Cajun place is opening there. Hmm...
