It's Costing More To Fuel Up This Week

Local residents seeing per gallon tab nearing $4.

South shore residents are again paying more to gas up their vehicles.

The cash price for a regular gallon of gas is over $4 per gallon at some stations between Blue Point and West Sayville and just one cent under at only two local stations.

OK Petroleum, on Foster and Middle Road in Sayville, is pricing regular fuel at $3.999 and Hess in Bayport is a hair cheaper at $3.979.

The price at Sayville's Unbranded station on Lakeland Avenue is $4.099 and $4.079 at Blue Point's BP station on Montauk Highway and Blue Point Avenue.

Newsday, citing information from the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report, reported Wednesday that the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline on Long Island is $4.026, up 28.5 cents over the past month.

Gasoline industry insiders said the recent jump in prices stems in part from supply limitations as oil refineries enter a “regular maintenance period.” In addition, growing demand for oil from China is also impacting worldwide crude oil prices.
