Happy Anniversary Sayville Running Company

Business celebrates their success with a free prediction run.

The (SRC) celebrated their five-year anniversary with a prediction run through the streets of Sayville and West Sayville on May 7.

Close to 50 runners came down to celebrate with their choice of either a 3- or 5-mile run. “We are just really happy to be here after five years,” said Brendan Barrett, co-owner of the SRC. “I always thought we could make this work but there are all these statistics out there telling you how so many small businesses fail by the five-year mark. But I think we have gotten better over the last five years. We have always been really good at doing the shoes but now we are getting better with all the ancillary stuff.”

Adidas sponsored the event and Adidas representatives Andrew and Paul were available to fit runners as the company provided a table full of shoes for participants to test run for the event. They also brought in breakfast and gave each runner a free Adidas t-shirt following the race.

“We have definitely grown organically,” said Mike Nolan, co-owner of Sayville Running Company. “We are becoming better known in the community and with runners in surrounding communities. “We have always had the right recipe to succeed. We’ve worked really hard these past five years but now we are a little more relaxed. We don’t have to do as much marketing or promotion of ourselves. It’s such a great feeling to see new runners springing up and I am excited for the future. We aren’t going anywhere!”

The top predictor in the race won a free pair of shoes from the store. All total, there were nine awards handed out at the end of the race. The ninth place runner was 1 minute and 36 seconds off the predicted finish time, while the first place predictor was three seconds off. John Callegari took home first place honors, while Kristen Marra was only eight seconds off and received a $50 SRC gift certificate. Michele Sebor placed third at 23 seconds off and received a $25 SRC gift certificate. The runners up all received t-shirts.
