Buyers Treasures: Something for Everyone

Sayville's newest thrift store occupies the former space of Sayville Running Company.

If you love antiquing or maybe just love hunting for a great bargain, a new business has landed in Sayville that’s just perfect for you – Buyers Treasures opened its doors on Feb. 1, but the owners haven’t had an official grand opening yet.

In the former home of the , across the street from the , Buyers Treasures offers some a little something for everyone. New and used merchandise runs the gamut from furniture, collectibles, antiques, CDs and DVDS, books, clothing, electronics and more.

The store is still getting organized and merchandise is constantly being added, according to owners Elizabeth Petrie and Stephanie Mauro. The space remained relatively the same in terms of the store layout, with the exception of one missing wall. Since the business opened in February, it has been a little slow but the owners believe it's just because many people don’t know about the store yet.

Prior to opening the new location, Petrie and Mauro were involved with running the warehouse behind the store, where they often held outdoor sales during the weekends over the last three years. Most of the merchandise at Buyers Treasures comes from donations, estate sales and auctions.

“When the running company decided to leave, the opportunity arose to take over this space and we just decided to do it,” Petrie and Mauro said. “We just recently launched another store in Middle Island about five months ago. We wanted to get that store up and running before we shifted our focus to this location.”

Prior to opening their businesses, the two were involved in E-bay trading over the last 12 years. “That’s how this business started; it sort of morphed from what wasn’t being sold on E-bay ended up here,” they said.

Prices are negotiable, to some degree, on most of the items. There is also a large furniture gallery behind the store. Many of the store’s customers come in seeking antiques and vintage items.

Buyers Treasures is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The store is closed on Mondays.
