Business Spotlight: Sal's Pizza in Sayville

Learn how Sal's came to be in Sayville and what's the top favorite menu item.

This week Patch's Small Business Profile features one of Sayville's most beloved restaurant and pizzeria.

Vito and Lori Giambanco brought Sal's Pizzeria and Catering, a family-owned business founded in 1980, to Sayville in 1992.

How did your business come to be?

When Vito's family came to this country from Italy, they bought a pizzeria. His Aunts and Uncles already had a few here and they felt they could build a great business. When Vito's father died in 1992 Vito and Lori bought the pizzeria from his Mom to carry it on in the great community of Sayville.

Why did you choose the Sayville area?

In 1980 it was cost effective for the family and we really loved the location.

What do you offer customers?

Two words: Top Quality! Everything from the ingredients to excellent customer service, we have never and will never compromise on our quality.

What is your business to be best known for?

Hmmm that's tough we have many things including our sauce, freshness of ingredients, service, and great value.

What's your most popular product or service?

Our most popular food item ordered is the pizza, all different kinds from regular cheese, Sicilian and Grandma. Our signature sauce is made fresh in our kitchen everyday and it is definitely another Sayville favorite for heros and entrees. In terms of a service of Sal's, we're also known for our support in the community. We are happy to support local teams, non-profits, some of these like our Day of Givings for the Victims Information Bureau of Suffolk are more widely publicized and many of our other charitable giving initiatives are more "behind the scenes."

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.
