Business Spikes at Hardware Stores as Blizzard Looms

Ice melt, shovels, storm gear are top items.

Local hardware stores are bustling with business as residents gather needed supplies and equipment for the impending Nemo blizzard reportedly hitting the south shore come Friday.

Brinkman Hardware stores in Sayville and Blue Point reported heavier than usual store traffic Thursday mid day as weather warnings hit the news.

“There is a lot of hustle and bustle,” the Blue Point store manager told Patch about noon Thursday, with customers grabbing up ice scrapers, ice melt, shovels and gloves.

“We’ve got plenty of supplies of everything, “ she added, as well as a well-stocked contigent of snow blowers. "People are buying to be prepared."

In Sayville, the Foster Avenue store was experiencing the same busy traffic from shoppers.

“Lots of people buying gloves, ice melt products and shovels. We’ve been busy,” a store employee told Patch.

Both locations are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Saturday. Sunday hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
