Biz Beat: Fashion Icon Shops in Sayville; Coffee Shop Shopping for a Spot

Project Runway judge Michael Kors loves Paper Doll Vintage Boutique.

Imagine having a famous fashion icon stop in your vintage clothing store unexpectedly. That’s exactly what happened to Dominique Maciejka, owner of Paper Doll Vintage Boutique, one of the newest stores in Sayville and one that is quickly becoming one of the most popular.

Michael Kors, the top judge on Project Runway stopped in and bought several items last week and as Maciejka shares on her Facebook page she didn’t realize it was him until he was leaving and so wasn’t able to snap a photo.

“I don't have a picture but they seemed really excited and eager to come back ASAP. I will snap a picture then!” she shares on Facebook, describing Kors as the “CK of the 2000s,” in terms of fashion icon status.

“He bought a bunch of stuff, complimented the store and said he's be back! EEeeEEE!,” she notes on Facebook.

If you haven’t met Maciejka she’s a vibrant, smart and incredibly enthusiastic shop owner who is offering some very creative events at her Main Street store.

She’ll be hosting a second Burlesque Basics Class, taught by Legs Malone, on Monday September 10 starting at 6:30 p.m. Bookmark her Facebook events page to make sure you don’t miss any fun.

Patch hears that a children’s clothing store may be considering moving into the former Goddess shop location on South Main but it’s far from a done deal.

A Lindenhurst coffee shop owner reached out to Patch this week as the owner is eager to relocate to either Bayport or Sayville and wanted some scoop on potential store fronts.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.
