13 Shopping Days Left: Say Cheese and Make Someone Smile

It's not just delectable cheese on American Cheese's gift options list.

If you haven't discovered the perfect gift yet Patch wants to make sure you do and will be spotlighting ideas at local businesses every day until Dec. 25 between Blue Point and West Sayville.

Today Patch spotlights American Cheese on Montauk Highway in West Sayville.

Owner Erin Nicosia is embarking on her third year with the shop that has become well known and respected for both its selection and quality.

Cheese, as Nicosia notes, is a great hostess gift especially when given with one of the many platters or boards that can be purchased. There is a wide variety of fondue pot options and condiments as well.

Adoration for cheese is growing, explains Nicosia, as it makes for a delectable and fantastic food option.

"All you do is have to put it out there. A platter of cheese for a party is the best way for those having a party to enjoy their company and not be in the kitchen making appetizers," she said.

American Cheese platters are especially popular during the holiday and make for a great gift at the office or for family get togethers. The shop has a wide range of options for platters but they need to be ordered ahead of time.

"If you call now you'll have a better selection of cheese to choose from as I likely won't be able to order more cheese during Christmas week," said Nicosia.

Another good tip: check out American Cheese's Facebook page and get on the email list as Nicosia is always alerting customers to new cheeses at the shop and the wonderful wine pairing events taking place.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.
