12 Shopping Days Left: Gift the Beauty and Sparkle of Christmas

West Sayville Flowers is revered for its beautiful wreaths and unique holiday decor.

There is no way motorists travelling Montauk Highway in West Sayville can miss the beauty of the holidays thanks to the window decor and artistic holiday display at West Sayville Flowers.

Located just east of the West Sayville golf course, West Sayville Flowers has been selling gorgeous and unique holiday plants and wreaths for 25 years and is celebrating its quarter-century operation with a special sale of 25 percent off all silk wreaths, swags and trees.

Owner Donna Johnson says purple is the big holiday color this season, but the shop offers up a huge selection of colorful seasonal plants.

Johnson's artistic talent and obvious love of flowers has built a deep and loyal customer base and she credits local residents for her success as a business.

"I don't think anyone besides Bayport Flower House sells as many wreaths as I do, and this season that's been about a 100," said Johnson, who clearly loves crafting and creating beautiful holiday wreaths and swags that bring customers back year after year.

"The community supports local business and that's such a great thing," she added.

One of the shop's newest gift items is a special 'memory' lamp that one can give to someone who lost a loved one this year. The Memory Lamps, which are beautiful small stained-glass fixtures, are lit to remind someone of the wonderful years and memories shared.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.

It's a drive-through bank.

I heard it was a bank some time ago, but I can't imagine which bank would run a construction projectRead More so poorly.
