10 Shopping Days Left: New Local-Run Web Store Offers Vintage Items

Robin's Roost is brand-new online shop run by a Bayport resident.

If you haven't discovered the perfect gift yet Patch wants to make sure you do and will be spotlighting ideas at local businesses every day until Dec. 25 between Blue Point and West Sayville.

Today Patch spotlights Robin’s Roost Vintage, a web shopping site run by a lifelong Bayport resident that features very unique accessories, home décor and other extraordinary finds.

Elizabeth Plotz, 28, launched the shop at the start of November though the Bayport-Blue Point graduate of 2002 has been selling goods online for over a decade.

She scours estate and garage sales for unique items and does purchase certain vintage items from private sellers.

Plotz is hoping to open a brick and mortar location in Sayville in the next year.

“Meanwhile I am continuing to build my inventory which stretches far beyond what is listed in my online shop. My store will include vintage and refinished/upcycled furniture as well as a broader array of not only vintage home decor and housewares, but newer items as well,” Plotz told Patch in an email.

“Think Pottery Barn or Crate & Barrel, but on a budget. Everything will be affordable.”

Plotz said the business combines her love for interior decorating and vintage with her expertise in reselling.

“I feel that Sayville will be a perfect fit for my store as Main Street already has so many lovely shops, including antique and vintage stores, but none are exactly like what I am doing.”

To keep up with Plotz and her excurstions to find unique things, check out her blog.

And if you find what you like at her online shop and you're local, you don't have to worry about shipping as local pick-up is available.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.
