UPDATE: Van Rams Sayville Animal Hospital Building

A passenger van with three occupants ran into the front entrance of the Sayville Hospital for Animals on Sunrise Highway about noon Monday, injuring one passenger. No one inside the hospital was injured.

According to employees, a woman with a St. Bernard just missed being caught in the crash as she had walked into the foyer just seconds before the van struck the front door area.

Sayville Fire Department members, Suffolk Police officers and the Community Ambulance responded to the scene. The ambulance crew included a paramedic first responder and two officers on scene and transported the injured van passenger from the scene to Brookhaven Hospital.

One worker told Patch he had been in the far back of the building when he felt the building move and shake.

“Then the alarm went off,” the worker said.

The hospital is cancelling appointments for the day as owners ascertain if the building is safe to occupy.
