Sayville Taxpayers Approve School Budget Proposal

Sayville taxpayers resoundly approved a proposed $89,461,217 school budget by a tally of 1,340 yes votes to 518 no votes.

The new budget features a tax rate increase of 2.75 percent and a 4.42 increase in spend. The rate increase, for the average Islip Town home assessed at $40,000 before a STAR exemption, will be a tax increase of $197 a year.

Incumbent trustees Norman DeVenau and Maureen Dolan, who ran uncontested, were elected to a new three-year term.

Voters also approved a Sayville Library budget proposal of $3,644,285 and a budget for the Sayville Historical Society of $55,145.
