Male Killed by Train Identified as 14-Year-Old

A male killed by a train Saturday night at the Sayville crossing has been identified as a 14-year-old teenager, according to MTA spokesperson Aaron Donovan.

Donovan told Patch that the investigation is in its early stages but preliminary information indicates it likely was not an accident. The teenager was reported hit Saturday night about 9:30 p.m.

It is the second train incident at the Sayville crossing in just over a month. On March 14 a man was injured at the Cherry Avenue track crossing when his luggage was hit by a westbound train, according to transit officials.

According to the MTA the man said he did not hear a train coming and had walked through the downed gates to cross the tracks.
