UPDATE: Fire Island Pines Plays a Role in HBO Film

The Fire Island Pines is a movie set Tuesday and Wednesday as HBO is filming Larry Kramer’s “The Normal Heart,” which won a Tony Award on Broadway, at the beach community.

Julia Roberts, Mark Ruffalo, Joel Grey, Alfred Molia and Jim Parsons are starring in the film. Filming Tuesday took place both on the oceanfront and bay side, according to island visitors who watched the filming action. 

The autobiographical play is about the early days of the AIDS crisis.

According to Edge New York, the film is slated to be released in 2014.

Tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday) they are shooting a White Party 1981 scene on the beach for HBO’s Normal Heart. If you are looking to participate be at the Pines ferry terminal at 3:15 for the 4pm boat over. Dress all white with any tattoos covered. First 75 people to be used.
