The BEST way to speed up your computer

Adding Random Access Memory (RAM) is the best way to speed up your computer. Windows users can check to see how much RAM you have by right clicking on "My Computer" and select "Properties". Before you go out and buy RAM you must determine which RAM speed (measured in MHz) is right for your computer. Kingston offers a good selection tool here: http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search/options/ Put in your computer model number on Kingston's site and they will tell you the correct memory for your machine. Older machines will use DDR or DDR2 memory and newer computers will use DDR3. Also, there's different RAM for Laptops and Desktops. Memory should be installed in pairs, if possible (i.e. 2 x 1 GB sticks is better than 1 x 2 GB stick). Also older Operating Systems like Windows XP or 98 will only recognize up to ~3GB of RAM so don't over-do it on older machines. Next, do a search on NewEgg.com with the same RAM-type (i.e. DDR2, DDR3, etc...) or part number that you found on Kingston's site to find inexpensive but high quality RAM for your machine. Before you open up your computer be sure to unplug the power cable. Wear anti-static grounding straps or you could damage your fresh new memory modules. Be careful removing the old memory as to not damage the connectors. And finally be sure to install them in the correct slots and in the correct orientation. If you are a little unsure give us a call at Blue Point Computer and we will be happy to help you choose the right RAM for your machine.
